Why I created Huakailani School for Girls

Aloha, I taught for many years in the public school system and several years in the private school system. I became an elementary school Principal, in 2000 for the opportunity to offer academic excellence to more students, not just the ones in my classroom, by becoming an administrator. Although I enjoyed and loved my varied educational experiences as an educator and administrator, something was always still missing. As a teacher, outside my own classroom, I could not make enough of an impact on providing the best education possible and was often hindered and frustrated by school regulations and programs to teach in a way that was best for the students. Then as an administrator I found that I missed working one-on-one with the students. There comes a time in a person's life when all of one's past experiences, highlights and challenges, all converge to form a clear image of what was meant to be and what you are meant to do. Huakailani is my vision and teaching is what I was meant to do. When a vision is fueled by such inspiration and commitment, something wonderful happens. That something wonderful is Huakailani School for Girls. Driven by my strong passion for educating young children and guided by my vision and commitment to offering a high quality education program to Oahu families, I resigned as Lower School principal from Le Jardin Academy to put my vision into action by opening my own school. Why an all-girls school? Studies support that girls and boys learn and think differently. Parents are finding that large sized co-ed classes are not meeting the needs of their children. Huakailani School's small-sized, private setting provides a wide variety of opportunities, experiences and resources/tools for increasing cognitive thinking skills, collaboration and problem solving skills, developing physical coordination, fostering creativity and imagination, building important social skills and positive, healthy self-concepts in a nurturing all-girls setting that specializes in supporting each student to reach her fullest potential. At Huakailani School your child is guaranteed individualized instruction. The girls are taught personally by me, an educator and administrator with 20 years of experience.
